About Kolo

Having already, from the moment he entered, understood that gestural beauty and technical refinement would not be in front of others, his main assets; Kolo constantly maintained during his training at the Academy, his rage, his determination.

He constantly tried to be intractable in defensive duels, because that was what he liked to do most: Protect the house.
To the point where, during training, in ball conservation workshops, he very often started the session in the middle and stayed there until the end, while the defensive tasks of the “middle” rejected most Academicians. He enjoyed it intensely: He was not wrong, considering the career he had made and the situations in which he took over from the strikers, whether in Arsenal, City or Liverpool, or even Celtic, where he came to the end of his career.

In 2008 in Bamako, on a rainy afternoon in July, when he came with Aruna to encourage his little brothers from the first class of Bamako, everyone was surprised to see how motivated he had trained with them!
In the small game, on a small field that closed the session, everyone will still remember a memorable sequence.
Kolo was part of a team made up of the youngest. The opposing team, by Makan Samabali, was about to score a goal when Kolo, who had climbed to the front, came back at full speed. Makan armed his shot and Kolo threw himself to tackle and avoid the goal for his team. Makan makes a hook and Kolo is trained for several meters in his momentum, off the field !!!
The privileged public appreciates the technical finesse of the young Samabali who will score a magnificent goal, ahead of Kolo Touré, vice-captain of Arsenal!
He hits in the empty goals…. But the ball didn’t come in: Kolo had already taken off the good feint and came back to counter the shot and avoid the goal for his team !!!
For his younger brothers, it was a wonderful lesson that day !
